Our Story

Founded in November 1987 by our inspiring principal, Jayne Wing, Pirouette Academy of Dance first opened its doors at the Horsewell Lane Pavilion in Wigston. After a short time, the school relocated to the United Reformed Church, which has remained its home ever since.

What began with just 35 pupils has grown into a thriving and highly respected dance school. Nearly four decades later, Jayne’s dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment have helped shape Pirouette into a nurturing environment with an outstanding reputation and a wealth of successful alumni.

From the very beginning, Jayne’s vision was to provide children with the opportunity to develop their skills in dance and musical theatre, building confidence and creativity that would support them in whatever paths they chose to follow.

As a proudly family-run business, Pirouette Academy of Dance has always fostered a warm, welcoming atmosphere. This sense of community is at the heart of everything we do, with many pupils and parents forming lasting friendships that extend far beyond the studio.

Family has played an integral role in the school’s journey. In its early years, Jayne’s mother was instrumental in helping to establish and run the dance school, as well as creating many of the costumes, some of which are still worn today. Jayne’s younger sister, once a pupil herself, went on to pursue further training in Musical Theatre before returning as a valued teacher. Continuing this legacy, Jayne’s daughter also contributes to the school, teaching between her own professional performing contracts.

Above all, Pirouette Academy of Dance is built on a strong sense of community and belonging. Many of our pupils grow up within the school, and even after they move on, they remain a valued part of our extended family because once you become part of Pirouette, you are always part of the family.
