Exams
At Pirouette, our core classes are centred around the ISTD syllabus, with additional ISTD exam training also incorporated into our Greek and National classes. Following the ISTD framework helps children build a strong technical foundation while developing their ability to pick up choreography, perform with confidence, and express style and musicality.
Examinations give students clear goals to work towards, helping them feel a real sense of progress and achievement. We are incredibly fortunate at Pirouette to have ISTD examiners teaching our students, alongside highly trained ISTD teachers who bring a wide range of experience from their own specialist areas.
A recent and exciting addition to our Musical Theatre classes is the RAD Musical Theatre syllabus. This combines singing, acting, and dance, giving children the opportunity to put their skills into practice in a fun and engaging way, alongside continuing to build their technique. We are also working towards entering our first ever Acro exams, which is another exciting step for Pirouette.
Over the years, Pirouette has enjoyed fantastic success in ISTD examinations, with many students achieving Advanced 2 qualifications across multiple disciplines. While exams help to build strong dance foundations, they also encourage discipline, confidence, and good manners which are valuable life skills that children carry with them beyond the studio.
ISTD Progression
Petite Pirouetter's
Graded Exams
Vocational Exams
All of our Petite Pirouetter's (aged 5+) will learn the Primary syllabus in Ballet, Tap and Modern Theatre. They are also able to take part in the Primary National, exam classes and non ISTD exam classes, which are RAD Musical Theatre and the Acrobatic Arts syllabus. Allowing the children to work towards progressing in multiple genres.
Our graded exams are Grade 1-6 where the children progress through after passing each grade. Here they build the foundations for a versatile performer as well as working at a level which is suited to their ability.
The vocational ISTD exams are Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2. Here the children will be challenged in their technique, musicality and artistry as well as training at a high level. Intermediate is the minimum level to pass to start taking DDE (Diploma in Dance Education) teaching exams.
