Classes

Ballet
At Pirouette our ballet classes are what we call our 'fruit and veg' of dance. We focus predominantly on ISTD exam work which combines free and set work within the syllabi. Ballet develops technique, strength, style and line and we always encourage a strong sense of artistry and musicality. We encourage every child to take ballet classes alongside other genres of dance.
Tap
Our tap classes primarily follow the ISTD syllabus, while placing a strong emphasis on developing each child’s rhythmic awareness and sense of timing from as early as age three. Encouraging children to create sound with their feet brings a great sense of enjoyment to each class, and tap dance often provides a space where many individuals can truly thrive.

Modern
Modern dance is a fantastic foundation for nurturing a child’s sense of style and self-expression. This class encourages individuality, allowing each dancer to develop their own unique voice while building strong technical skills. With a rich blend of influences, including lyrical and various jazz styles, modern offers a wide creative landscape where every child can discover their personal pathway.
The balance of technique and artistry helps shape well-rounded performers, giving them both confidence and versatility. Having our principal as an examiner makes the experience even more special, as their extensive knowledge and expertise directly enrich the children’s learning and development.
National
At Pirouette we are extremely lucky to have a principal with a passion for National and global dance. This subject the children get to learn about the traditional dances from countries all over the world and they get to dance in partners. It's a great opportunity to dance with friends, learn partner work and learn about different cultures from around the world.

Classical Greek
Classical Greek at Pirouette is an ISTD exam class where Ancient Greek history is interpreted through dance. This is another class that combines technique as well as musicality and is another opportunity to delve deeper into the life of the Greek Gods.
Contemporary
We’re incredibly lucky to have such an inspiring and creative Contemporary teacher at Pirouette. Miss Jemma seamlessly blends technique, choreography, and imagination in every class, creating a dynamic and engaging environment for her students. It’s a space where individuality is celebrated, allowing each child to shine and bring their own unique strengths to different aspects of the class. With exposure to a variety of styles and contemporary techniques, students develop a well-rounded and versatile skill set

Musical Theatre
Our Musical Theatre lessons have recently evolved with the introduction of the brand-new RAD Musical Theatre syllabus across all classes. This exciting addition enables students to explore every aspect of musical theatre in depth, combining singing, acting, and dancing while also developing an understanding of the history and context behind songs, musicals, and productions.
With a strong emphasis on singing, students work across a wide range of styles and eras, using acting both through song and alongside it to enhance their performance skills and bring each piece to life.
Street Dance / Commercial
Our Street/Commercial Dance classes are high-energy, dynamic, and packed with personality. Dancers explore a range of styles building strong technique, musicality, and performance quality, while encouraging students to develop their own style and confidence. With upbeat music and fresh choreography each week, dancers learn how to pick up routines quickly, perform with attitude, and bring energy to every move.
This is a fun, expressive class where individuality is celebrated and dancers are encouraged to let go, perform, and truly enjoy themselves.

Acro
At Pirouette, our Acro classes offer the perfect blend of strength, flexibility, lifts, and tricks, helping students build both skill and confidence in a fun, supportive environment. Alongside this, our dedicated Tumbling class focuses specifically on the drills and progressions needed to achieve safe, strong, and consistent tumbling technique.
Both classes are led by fully qualified teachers who prioritise safety while encouraging each child to progress at their own pace.
We also offer a Stretch & Conditioning class, designed to develop flexibility, build physical and cardiovascular strength, and support the body for dance training. This class plays an important role in helping students become well-rounded, resilient performers.
Festival / Competitions
Our festival/competition team is open to all. From the age of as young as 3 years old, the children are given many opportunities to compete and perform on stage. We value teamwork at Pirouette and this is a great opportunity for the children to work as a team. Not only do we compete in smaller local festivals, we also travel to compete in All England competitions and different awards all over the country. The children are given the opportunity to perform solo's, duets, trios and groups in many different genres. They also have extra classes on the timetable, such as a performance class which works on a range of routines and general technique.
